Super Bowl XLVI ends in a Nail-Biter

Take a quick trip down memory lane back to Super Bowl XLII in 2007, the New York Giants had pulled the upset against the first 16-0 winning team in NFL History, the New England Patriots. Five years later, the two teams just battled head to head today in Super Bowl XLVI, at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. Early Sunday prior to the big game, Giants defensive end Chris Canty predicted (via Twitter) the Giants would win todays game by 28-17, so was this a prequel to todays sequel? Sort of....not quite the predicted 28-17 score, but close! The Giants came off as the victors with a 21-17 win over the Patriots.

Although Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's first play of the game resulted in a safety, between the two teams, the first half of the game was relatively close. By halftime the Patriots were on top of the Giants, 10-9. Tom Brady went into the half with 15/18 completed passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, While the Giants quarterback, Eli Manning, put up 13/17 completed passes for 120 yards as well as a touchdown.

The Patriots opened up the third quater with a 79 yard drive, which concluded in a 12 yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to tight end, Aaron Hernandez. The Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes went on to kick two field goals to keep his team holding on close through the second half. The fourth quater opened up just as rocky as the first for the Patriots, with Brady throwing an interception to Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn. A couple drives later, Eli Manning of the Giants marched his team down the field to put his team on the New England Patriot's own 18 yard line with 2 minutes left in the game. Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw would run up the middle and score a touchdown. The Giants would try for the 2-point conversion, but not gain it. This proved to be irrelevant though as the Giants held the Patriots on the final drive of the game, winning Superbowl XLVI with a total of 26 first downs, 282 passing yards, and 114 rushing yards. Looks like Tom Brady is going to have to wait a little longer to tie Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw for four Superbowl rings.
